Job Duties: RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPARING AND/OR DIRECTING THE PREPARATION OF THE FOOD TO BE SERVED, COMPLYING WITH ALL APPLICABLE SANITATION, HEALTH AND PERSONAL HYGIENE STANDARDS AND FOLLOWING ESTABLISHED FOOD PRODUCTION PROGRAMS AND PROCEDURES. MOREOVER, THE COOK IS RESPONSIBLE FOR APPROPRIATE USE OF FACILITY SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT TO MINIMIZE LOSS, WASTE AND FRAUD. ASSISTS THE CHEF DE PARTIE/COOK IN DEVELOPING AND COOKING MEALS. INSPECT AND CLEAN FOOD PREPARATION AREAS, SUCH AS EQUIPMENT AND WORK SURFACES, OR SERVING AREAS TO ENSURE SAFE AND SANITARY FOOD-HANDLING PRACTICES. ENSURE FOOD IS STORED AND COOKED AT CORRECT TEMPERATURE BY REGULATING TEMPERATURE OF OVENS, BROILERS, GRILLS, AND ROASTERS. ENSURE FRESHNESS OF FOOD AND INGREDIENTS BY CHECKING FOR QUALITY, KEEPING TRACK OF OLD AND NEW ITEMS, AND ROTATING STOCK. ALSO, TURN OR STIR FOODS TO ENSURE EVEN COOKING. SEASON AND COOK FOOD ACCORDING TO RECIPES OR PERSONAL JUDGMENT AND EXPERIENCE.BAKE, ROAST, BROIL, AND STEAM MEATS, FISH, VEGETABLES, AND OTHER FOODS. MOREOVER, WEIGH, MEASURE, AND MIX INGREDIENTS ACCORDING TO RECIPES OR PERSONAL JUDGMENT, USING VARIOUS KITCHEN UTENSILS AND EQUIPMENT. PORTION, ARRANGE, AND GARNISH FOOD, AND SERVE FOOD TO WAITERS OR PATRONS. OBSERVE AND TEST FOODS TO DETERMINE IF THEY HAVE BEEN COOKED SUFFICIENTLY, USING METHODS SUCH AS TASTING, SMELLING, OR PIERCING THEM WITH UTENSILS. WASH, PEEL, CUT, AND SEED FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TO PREPARE THEM FOR CONSUMPTION. THEN TAKE INVENTORY OF KITCHEN AND FOOD SUPPLIES,AND ORDERS AS NECESSARY. OCCASIONALLY ANSWERS INQUIRIES FROM WAIT STAFF AND GUESTS REGARDING FOOD CHOICES. PERFORM OTHER RELATED DUTIES INCIDENTAL TO THE WORK DESCRIBED HEREIN.
High School Diploma Required? Yes
Qualification Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent and Post Secondary Degree or Vocational Certification. Minimum of one year work experience as a Cook, preferably in a hotel facility. Must be able to work well under pressure; lift at least 50 lbs; work nights, weekends, and holidays; obtain a food handler’s certificate; and have knowledge in proper food handling and sanitation practices.
