Job Title: | Paralegal/Legal Assistant/Legal Support Worker |
Job Duties: | Provides case management support to attorneys over a variety of civil litigation, transactional matters and criminal cases from initial client interview through trial or case resolution. Performs legal research and writing. Identifies appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles and other materials relevant to assigned cases. Analyzes legal sources, including, but not limited to, relevant federal and CNMI statutes, judicial decisions, rules and regulations, rules of court, and provides memorandum for attorneys. Helps lawyers prepare for hearings, depositions and trials. Drafts pleadings, motions, contracts and agreements. Interviews clients and witnesses and does investigative interviews. Prepares letters and correspondence. Summarizes depositions. Determines response dates for responses to pleadings and other legal documents. Reviews and organizes voluminous documents in complex litigation. Performs electronic filing and service of court documents in the CNMI, District Court and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Uses computerized legal research system such as Westlaw and computerized court electronic filing such as File and Serve and PACER. Performs other related duties as may be assigned. |

Qualification Requirements: | Requires a paralegal certificate or equivalent. A minimum of three years of experience in a law firm. Must have strong legal research and writing skills. Must be literate in computer and computer applications such as Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Power Point, and proficient in the use of online legal research databases such as Westlaw. Competency with electronic filing at the Commonwealth Courts, Federal Courts, and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals using File & Serve Xpress and PACER preferred. Requires ability to work under pressure. |
