Job Title: Hospital Nurse Supervisor
Job Duties: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing. The incumbent must demonstrate leadership abilities, organizational skills, managerial abilities and enforces/implements hospital and nursing policies and procedures. Must have good communication skills, and good public relation abilities. Is able to make sound judgment on decision making. Promotes and restores patients’ health by developing day to day management and long-term planning of the patient care area assigned; directing and developing staff; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staffs; providing physical and psychological support for patients, friends, and families. Is expected to participate on nursing/hospital activities, to attend in-service and continuing education activities, to attend nursing leader’s meetings and expected to rotate shifts, work weekends and holidays. Responsible for administrative management of designated nursing department. At a given schedule nursing supervisor is responsible to oversee operation of all nursing department. Senior level nursing supervisor is responsible in creating schedule for all nursing supervisor and has oversight of the Junior nursing supervisor. As assigned senior nursing supervisor may assume administrative responsibility for hospital operations in the absence of the Director of Nursing. Assigns and reschedule nursing personnel as necessary to meet the requirements of patient care. Approves absences for emergency leave, annual leave and sick leave of personnel. Interprets hospital and nursing policies and procedures and is knowledgeable of the legal aspects pertaining to such. Makes periodic routine rounds on designated unit and all units as scheduled to evaluate unit organization and observe quality of nursing care given. Visits all seriously and critically ill patients. Responsible for clinical decisions and problems. Arranges for emergency services with appropriate calls on evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Responsible for the shift Census Reports. Initiates Disaster Call procedure. Accomplishes nursing human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures. Supervises, coordinates, directs and participates in the activities of an assigned area of the Nursing Department. Supervises, coordinates and performs a variety of administrative staff work such as: scheduling; maintaining records; responding to requests for information or services; performing related administrative, planning and research activities; preparing correspondence, reports, statistical information and budget materials; and assisting in the development of policies, procedures and training. Completes performance evaluations; may make hiring recommendations; recommends disciplinary actions; approves vacations and time off; prepares work schedules and assignments; supervises the activities of assigned personnel; monitors reports and record keeping activities filed by assigned personnel for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to policy and procedure guidelines; instructs personnel in departmental policies, procedures and techniques; and provides training. Determines best course of action in the completion of assignments in assigned area including setting priorities. Supervises and oversees the filing of forms, reports and charts completed by subordinates. Prepares reports and summaries of client activity statistics and other related statistics. Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality and customer service standards; resolving problems, identifying system improvements. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments. Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection control policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing. Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Participates in quality assessment, performance improvement program activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: Associates Degree of Science in Nursing from a recognized/accredited School of Nursing. Must pass the NCLEX-RN and must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Commonwealth Board of Nurse Examiners (CBNE) to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Must have one Two years (2) of nursing management experience in an acute care setting. Must possess CPR/BLS certifications. Must have good communication skills, self–motivated and proactive for quality improvement. Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking and ability to make decisions in complex situations. Ability to work with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Must be computer literate.
